Fall Classic Final Game Attracts 51M Audience Members Across the United States, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The nail-biting extended matchup that saw the Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays by one run averaged a combined 51M spectators in the US, Canada, and Japan markets. Major League Baseball reported this is the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 contest between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

The Saturday epic contest averaged 27.33 million audience members on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It additionally stands as the most-watched Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07M. This marks a sixteen percent improvement compared to the last finale featuring the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked 4th, Game 4 was 7th, the fifth game was eighth, and the third game landed in 13th place.

Global Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game drew 11.6 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the most-watched English-language program in Canada since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game began at 9 PM local time, it averaged 12 million viewers. This followed last Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six innings – averaged 13.1 million viewers, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a single network in Japan.

Series Totals and Patterns

The entire seven-game series drew 15.71 million audience members on the Fox network, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen viewership growth for two straight seasons.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the complete US average was 16.1M. The total World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1M in Canada.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09 million watchers, an eight percent increase compared to the previous year and the network’s best playoff ratings since the 2017 season.

MLB reported that the World Series was televised in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 different languages.
